CHICKEN HOT & SOUR SOUP
Chicken Hot and Sour Soup starts with a rich, tangy, spicy broth and is filled with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu, egg, and tender chicken.
Spicy Hot & Sour is the only soup I order on a regular basis…We frequently visit a nearby restaurant, and I get this soup with fried fish fingers. Hmmmm… This tastes fantastic. This soup is enhanced by the addition of an egg and chicken. It tastes delicious to me.
When I sense a cold coming on, I turn to Chicken Hot and Sour Soup. The thick, rich, acidic, spicy brothy soup with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and delicate chicken chunks is extremely nourishing and therapeutic. It’s also quite tasty. I’m craving a bowl of hot and sour soup because of the cold weather. This soup has a nice rush of heat and true Chinese flavors to it.
Hot and sour soup is a Chinese soup dish that is flavorful, acidic, substantial, and a touch spicy. Traditionally, it is cooked with pork tenderloin that has been seasoned with soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, a little starch, and cooking wine before being sautéed in a wok to produce the soup foundation. The soup contains shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, julienned carrots, wood ear mushrooms, tofu, and dried lily flower buds.
The “hot” comes from ground white pepper, while the “sour” comes from white vinegar.
I’ve reduced the classic recipe to make it easier and more accessible. It tastes just like my mom’s at home! The flavors and textures in this soup are quite addicting, and I can easily see it becoming one of your favorites this winter!
